Branko’s Tower

Branko’s Tower is located on a hill in the village of Rudare, 11 km from Kuršumlija, along the Niš–Priština road. At the site, visitors can see a wall approximately 100 m long and about 10 m high. It is composed of enormous horizontal basalt columns with a pentagonal cross-section, stacked in a regular formation. This is a geological phenomenon estimated to be several tens of millions of years old. It is believed that the wall was formed as a result of eruptions from a mega-volcano once located in the Radan area.

It represents a unique geological phenomenon in Serbia. Similar formations are extremely rare worldwide and have only been recorded in places such as the Czech Republic and Iceland. With this in mind, the wall at Branko’s Tower has the potential to become a distinctive and unique tourist attraction of the Kuršumlija municipality.

Archaeological surveys conducted at this site also confirmed the existence of a fortification. According to local legend, this was the location of the court of Branko Mladenović, father of Vuk Branković, after whom the site was named.
