Fortresses
Branko’s Tower
Located on a hill in the village of Rudare, 11 km from Kuršumlija on the Niš–Priština road. It consists of enormous horizontal basalt columns with a pentagonal cross-section, stacked in a regular formation. This is a geological phenomenon estimated to be several tens of millions of years old. It is believed that the wall was formed as a result of eruptions from a mega-volcano once located in the Radan area.
Ivan Tower
Ivan Tower is a small medieval fortress located in the village of the same name, 33 km southeast of Kuršumlija, on the western slopes of Mount Radan. The fortress can be reached via the road that branches off from the Niš–Priština highway at Sastavci, then turns northeast near the village of Vuče, continuing by gravel road to the village center and finally by a steep path to the fortress itself.
Tower of Mara
The site of the Tower of Mara Branković (Marin Hill) is located 2 km east of Kuršumlija, on a conical hill rising above the confluence of the Kosanica and Toplica rivers and the modern Niš–Priština road route. It is a multilayered archaeological site containing the remains of settlements and fortifications from prehistoric times, the Roman Empire, Byzantium, the Serbian medieval state, and the Ottoman period.
