Church of Saint George
The Church of Saint George, according to tradition, dates back to the time of the Nemanjić dynasty, but it was destroyed by the Ottomans. Around the original church site, which was later destroyed during road construction, people traditionally gathered on Saint George’s Day (Đurđevdan). The company A.D. “Planinka”, with the blessing of Bishop Irinej of Niš, built a new church at another location, near Nenad’s Rock, at an altitude of 875 meters, above the center of the spa and about 500 meters away by air distance.
The location of the new church, envisioned as the future spiritual guardian of Lukovska Banja, is exceptionally attractive as it offers a remarkable panoramic view of the spa and the surrounding area. Due to its position, it can be compared to the Meteora monastery complex in Greece.
