Europe

The renovated Hotel “Europe” will house a future museum with a permanent exhibition aimed at presenting the rich archaeological and cultural-historical heritage of the Kuršumlija region. Through a diverse exhibition, visitors will be able to travel through the past eras of Kuršumlija, from the Neolithic period, Antiquity, and the Byzantine Empire, through the Middle Ages and the liberation of Kuršumlija from Ottoman rule, to the heroes of the famous Iron Regiment, the heroes and victims of the Toplica Uprising, and all the way to the present day. In addition to replica exhibits, old photographs, reconstructions of tools and weapons, uniforms, decorations, and memorial items, the exhibition will also feature various multimedia and interactive devices.

The exhibition will vividly present the beginnings of the state founded by Stefan Nemanja and the construction of his first endowments — the monasteries of Saint Nicholas and the Holy Virgin. It will proudly highlight both the heroism and the sacrifice of the people of Toplica during the First and Second World Wars.

Hotel “Evropa” was built in 1892 and originally had eight guest rooms. It represented a luxurious building of its time, frequently visited by notable personalities such as Branislav Nušić, Milutin Uskoković, Kosta Milovanović Pećanac, Kosta Vojinović, Voja Tankosić, and others.
