Monument to the Second Infantry Regiment “Knjaz Mihailo”

The monument was erected in the village of Igrište in October 2016 in honor of the Second Infantry Regiment “Knjaz Mihailo”, which gained immortal glory during the wars from 1912 to 1918.

When the general mobilization was announced in 1912, seventeen young men from this village walked more than 50 kilometers on foot to their mobilization centers, singing arm in arm. Only three of them returned home.

There was hardly a house without a black mourning flag. In memory of these brave soldiers, seventeen spruce trees were first planted, followed by the construction of the monument dedicated to the entire “Iron Regiment”, under whose banner the ancestors of the people of Igrište fought to defend their homeland, village, and dignity.
