Church Lazarica

Church Lazarica (the Church of Saint Lazar) is located in the valley of the Prolom River, at an altitude of 640 meters. It is situated 2.5 km from the center of Prolom Banja. It is the only wooden church in the Toplica region. The church was built in 1890 by settlers from Mount Golija on the foundations of an older temple. According to local tradition, part of the Serbian army received Holy Communion here before departing for the Battle of Kosovo.

An unusual natural phenomenon can be seen in the churchyard — six twisted plum trees. Legend says that after receiving communion, the soldiers circled the church six times while praying for victory at Kosovo. The plum trees twisted in the direction in which the soldiers moved. The old trees eventually disappeared, and new ones grew and twisted in the same way, but there have always been exactly six plum trees in the churchyard.
