Samokovo represents the nearest urban resort for Kursumlija’s residents, 1,5km away, that is, about 40min of walking at a moderate pace from the centre of Kursumlija. This resort steeply rises above the town, at a height of 528m. Since many Serbs died during the Liberation War of Kursumlija in December 1877 and in January 1878, it is called “Serbian Plevna”. There is the restaurant ”Samokovo” which has a very interesting style of architecture and which is made entirely of wood. It has 200 seating places, 80 of which are in the restaurant’s terrace.
At the foot of Samokovo, about 1km upstream from the confluence of the Banjska and the Toplica, “The Military Fountain” was built for military needs after Kursumlija’s liberation from the Turks.
